The Films of Joe d' Amato

Aladin: (1993) Joe d’Amato’s hard-core foray into the historical-fantasy realm with this raunchy romp that features the worlds first POV "snatch-cam" and "butt-cam!" [AO]

The Alcove
The Alcove: (1984) Excellent art-house erotica from Joe D'Amato starring Al Cliver and Laura Gemser. An English soldier (Cliver) returns home from the Zulu war with the daughter of a tribal king (Gemser) as his slave. While he's been gone, his wife has been having an affair with the female housekeeper. Not at all pleased with being a slave, the princess seduces the mistress of the house and things start getting out of hand. This is actually far more twisted than it sounds with one of the more disturbing moments being the filming of an inquisition-themed porno that turns into the sadistic rape of a virgin. Sporting tons of full-frontal nudity, simulated lesbian and straight sex and some hard-core (as seen in an old stag film), this has the sleazy goods to go along with the artsy setting and atmosphere. Widescreen, in English with Greek subs. [AO, B]

Anthropophagus: (1980) Full length, uncut, widescreen print of Joe d'Amato's classic gorefest that was released here in the States cut to ribbons as The Grim Reaper. After getting shipwrecked and turning into a cannibal (and eating his wife and kids), George Eastman goes nuts and attacks a group of folks who end up on a remote island. All the grue is featured here including the notorious (and rude as hell) fetus munching scene. Stars Tisa Farrow (bet her sis is proud). [B, 18+]

Anthropophagus 2: (1981) More uncut Joe d'Amato mayhem a.k.a. The Grim Reaper 2, Monster Hunter. George Eastman returns as a now unstoppable killer who regenerates flesh at the expense of his brain cells while being chased around by a lunatic priest. This print contains all of the disemboweling, cranial drilling, decapitation, etc. And seems to be at least in part inspired by Halloween 2 as the Anthropophagus Beast runs amok in a hospital. [B, 18+]

Black Cobra: (1976) A.k.a. Erotic Eva. Very rare Joe D' Amato erotic drama starring Laura Gemser and Jack Palance. A rich recluse in Hong Kong (Palance) falls for an erotic snake dancer (Gemser) and invites her to stay with him and his deadly snake collection. When the recluses sociopath brother starts hanging around and bringing other women over, things start heating up. Lots of full-frontal nudity and mild soft-core lesbian sex with a revenge plot twist. In English with Greek subtitles. [B, 18+]

Black Emanuelle Goes East: (1976) A.k.a. Emanuelle in Bangkok. Joe d' Amato directs and Laura Gemser returns as the ever-seductive Black Emanuelle. This time Emanuelle takes off to the far East (mainly Thailand) and while running into horny locals, including a bellboy who she blueballs, she cavorts with her main squeeze an archaeologist and his lover. Never running out of energy, an Asian honey, and many others (including Ivan Rassamov in a very Zen-like role) take her interest while she takes in the local scenery (the show with the girl who uses vaginal force to keep an egg between her legs is particularly interesting). Sure there isn't a whole lotta plot, but since there is a wall-to-wall, regular assortment of people getting' nekkid and doing the horizontal hula, you may not care. Gabrielle Tinti also stars. In English with Dutch subtitles. [B, 18+]

Caligula - The Untold Story: (1988) A.k.a. Emperor Caligula, Caligula II. Widescreen totally uncut hard-core version of this twisted Joe d'Amato sleaze-a-thon about the notorious exploits of the worlds most brutal ruler, with Laura Gemser and Michelle Soavi. This print has all of the explicit sex, gore and perversion hacked from all other versions. [AO]

Castle of Lucretia: (1996) The voluptuous Sarah Young stars in this elaborate, award-winning Italian XXX 35mm film detailing the lives, and more importantly, the lusts of the famous Lucretia Borgia. Directed by Joe d' Amato's compadre in filth, Nick Moore, this slick spoogefest leaves no bone unpolished and no hole unboned. Also stars d' Amato alumni Erika Bella. [AO]

Cormack of the Mounties: (1974) A.k.a. Redcoats. Joe D' Amato's Death Hunt-type Canuck frontier flick with Lionel Stander and Fabio Testi as Cormack the Hunter, the baddest mountie in the land. When an old acquaintance escapes from prison and vows to kill Cormack, the Hunter refuses to become the hunted. In English with Dutch subtitles (the original film-to-video transfer was a bit grainy, but it's the best there is). In English with Dutch subtitles. [B]

Death Smiles at Murder
Death Smiles at Murder: (1973)Widescreen print of this cool, strange Joe d'Amato giallo about a doctor (Klaus Kinski) who is experimenting with bringing the dead back to life while a black-gloved killer stalks a group of friends on a remote estate. The plot takes a bizarre twist when a woman falls for another chick and decides to wall her up in Poe-esque fashion. After the police find the body and the girl is buried, she suddenly starts showing up 'round town in various states of decomposition and killing off various members of the cast. [B]

Eleven Days, Eleven Nights: (1986) Joe D'amato's rather popular 9½ Weeks inspired bit of erotica about a hot, young thang who is writing a book about 100 sexcapades in the city. When she picks up a poor schmuck who is getting married in 11 days, she takes him for a steamy ride that lasts eleven days and eleven nights! [B]

Emanuelle Around the World: (1977) A.k.a. Emanuelle Versus Violence to Women. Rare X-rated version of the legendary Joe d'Amato's somewhat notorious (but aren't they all?) entry in his ultra-sleazy Black Emanuelle series starring Laura Gemser as the adventurous, kinky Emanuelle, of course. This time out Emanuelle is out to put an end to a global sex-slave ring that starts with thugs raping and beating women into submission and ends with the women being prostituted for important politicos. Hopping around the globe and running into various familiar faces (mainly because most of the footage is taken from other films!) including George Eastman, Ivan Rassamov and even Randy West and puttin' the kabosh on the slavers - after much gratuitous sleaze of course. [B, AO]

Erectus: (1995) Joe d' Amato is at it again, this time doing a 35mm porno knock-off of Quest for Fire and Clan of the Cave Bear. Man may have learned to walk, but he was erect long before then! Lots of grunting (in one way or another) and the usual Euro fucking action. Stars Roberto Malone and a bevy of fresh-faced newbies. [AO]

Frankenstein 2000: (1992) A.k.a. Return from Death. Finally you can toss out that shitty VSoM screener for this great looking print of Joe D' Amato's last horror film! When a woman is beaten into a coma and saved from being raped by her handyman (Donald O' Brian), the local security force does a cover-up to save the town's reputation and frames the savior. After he is murdered the woman's strange comatose psi-powers revive him from the dead to exact revenge on the local bastards! D'Amato freely admitted to hiring the great O' Brian (of Dr. Butcher fame) because he had a stroke and was pretty messed up afterwards. [B]

Hamlet: (1997) Gotta love them Eye-talians, only they could take the Bards most famous tale and make a big-budget XXX raunch epic out of it! Shot on 35mm film by Joe d' Amato himself (who even has a small role in the film!) and starring a top-notch cast of over 25 lucious babes including the curvaceous Sarah Young (as Ophelia). This tape includes both parts 1&2 and an inspired music video "To Fuck or Not to Fuck." [AO]

   Images of a Convent
: (1979) Joe d'Amato's unholy sleaze, a.k.a. Immagini de un Convento, that is quite possibly the best sexploitation rip-off of The Devils ever made. The Great Horny One (the Devil) seems intent on running amuck in God’s sanctuaries by infesting a bunch of nuns with unholy desires to lick, grope and fuck everyone in sight. Enough sex and full-frontal nudity to put ol' Jack Valenti right into a coma. Fine filth in Italian without subs in fair quality. [B, AO]

Joe d' Amato: Totally Uncut
Joe D'Amato Totally Uncut: (1999) Very cool feature length interview / documentary on the legendary Aristide Massaccessi. Primarily a lengthy interview with the man himself shortly before his death in '98. This covers the whole range of his films from the early days of as a kid describing how he helped make film credits straight though to the prolific porn of the '90s. Included are a whole host of clips from his 30 years of directing films most featuring soft-core sex and full frontal nudity. Massaccessi has some great stories to tell and some of his friends shed a little light on the man as well. Great stuff. Widescreen in Italian with English subs (a warning for the excessively anal: you may notice a periodic, split-second freeze in the picture. This is the way the video is). [B, 18+]

Jungle Heat: (1993) A.k.a. Tarzan X. Joe d’Amato’s XXX remake of Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan with Rocco Siffredi as the latter-day vineswinger who’s hot for Jane… and her friends, but just can’t seem to get adjusted to civilized living. Edgar Rice Burrogh’s estate actually got this film banned due to the fact that this Tarzan sports a massive boner for any hole in any chick within arms reach. Is that so wrong? [AO]

The Last Scillian: (1995) Another of Joe d’ Amato’s XXX 35mm film gangster outings. Don Salvatore keeps up the Sicilian end of things while breakin’ the law and bangin’ the bimbos. Nice production values, little plot. [AO]

Marco Polo: (1994) More Joe d’Amato semi-historical, totally hard-core fare, this one about a the legendary traveler who likes to explore more than land in his trip to the orient. Lots of Asian babage for those with a taste for the far East. In Italian with some English narration. [AO]

Marquis de Sade: (1995) Will it ever end? Joe d’Amato tackles the sultan of sadism (ol’ Rocco Siffredi again) in this hard-core reworking of his life story (a nice enough guy, it seems he just liked to hump too much). Rather frenzied in the sex area, but little actual sadism or historical accuracy. [AO]

Midnight Obsession: (1995) Joe D’Amato strikes yet again with this hard-core women’s prison outing. When an attractive girl gets caught trying to smuggle drugs across the border of a fascist country she is taken into custody and strip-searched and thrown in a vile prison populated by horny guards and inmates. WiP fans should dig this one, sort of an XXX-rated version of Midnight Express. [AO]

Paprika: (1995) A.k.a. Anal Paprika, The Last Italian Whore. Somewhat notorious Joe d’Amato XXX outing, starring the always yummy Erika Bella who not only does her usual three-hole thang, but even squeaks out a bit of emotion when necessary. The tale concerns a woman who joins a brothel frequented by roaring 20s gangsters... Yeah, it’s a bit slim on plot, but you know you wanna see it anyway. [AO]

Passion in Venice: (1992) Virtually plotless, but glossy as hell Joe d’Amato porno shot on location in Venice, Italy (kinda half expected it to be Venice, California, when I first heard the title). Plot? Uhmmm, uhh, well, there’s this chick, see, and uh, this guy and uhhhhmmm, you get the idea (actually there’s more than one, there’s even an orgy scene, but that’s beside the point). It even stars an Italian babe from Dracula (the XXX one). Did my research on this one, didn’t I? [AO]

The Pleasure
The Pleasure: (1985) Rare Joe d'Amato art-house erotica starring Dagmar Lassender and Laura Gemser. When an aristocrat's ex-whore turned lover dies, he consoles himself listening to audio tapes of their sex life. That is, until his lover's daughter and son come to stay with him and his housemaid. The daughter, a virgin, quickly becomes obsessed with losing her virginity to her step-father while the brother quickly relinquishes his to the housemaid. Lots of full frontal nudity, strange sex games, opium den sex, bathtub scenes and generally much nakedness and soft-core sex. [18+, B]

Porno Holocaust: (1979) Subtitled print of this Joe d'Amato XXXer starring George Eastman as a scientist tracking down a mutant with a murderous, monster member on a desert isle populated by horny tourists. The mutant chases (albeit slowly) the horny folks around an island and bones 'em to death with a pecker from hell. In Italian with English subtitles, in fair to poor quality. [AO]

Quest for the Mighty Sword: (1990) A.k.a. Ator the Invincible, Ator III: The Hobgoblin. Third and final entry in Joe d'Amato's infamous Ator series starring Nordic bonehead Eric Allan Kramer as the son of Ator (originally played by Miles O'Keefe). When Ator Jr grows up and realizes the demented hobgoblin that has raised him from a child is actually a powerful sorcerer that drove his mother mad and is in league with an equally demented ruler (played by Donald O' Brian who does not look well), he sets out on a path for vengeance. Also worth noting is Laura Gemser in a bit part. In English with Dutch subtitles. [B]

Robin Hood - Thief of Wives: (1995) Still more Joe d’Amato XXX riffs. This time out it’s Robin Hood who’s out to steal the king’s harem and largely succeeds. Some absolutely hilarious dubbed dialogue (sez the king while gettin’ down with one of the Royal Babes: "Shit, I’m a great fuck!") keep this one consistently entertaining. [AO]

Sex Penitentiary: (1996) Ol’ Joe D’Amato just can’t stop can he? Glossy XXX reworking of the old "lady journalist goes undercover to find rampant sex and corruption" starring the babalicious Simona Valli takin’ it in every conceivable manner. Definitely a winner for XXX-WiP fans. [AO]

Some Like it Hard: (1995) A.k.a. Capone. Another hard-core Joe d’Amato pin-striped gangster outing shot on film (as usual) about life and lust in the roaring ‘20s. Pin-striped, square-shouldered bootleggers do deals and dames in positions you parents never even dreamed of. Shot in English for a change. [AO]

Top Model
Top Model: (1988) A.k.a. 11 Days, 11 Nights Part 2. Uncut print of Joe d’ Amato’s sequel to his highly successful 11 Days, 11 Nights. Luscious Jessica Moore (only 18 when she made the original in ‘86) returns as Gloria, a “model” and high-priced call girl who writes of her sexual adventures under a pen-name. After many more erotic encounters for her next book, she gets blackmailed by a guy who knows her secret and encounters a young computer programmer that seems to have a problem with hookers and girls in general. Also stars Laura Gemser. Lots of full-frontal nudity and some soft-core. In English with Greek subtitles. [18+, B]

Tough to Kill: (1978) Very cool Joe D’Amato jungle war thriller starring Luc Merenda and Donald O’Brien! When a small-time gunman gets wind of a $1,000,000 bounty on the head of a political assassin, he joins a military outfit in Africa posing as a mercenary to get next to his target. After locking horns with the brass-balled commander (O’Brien) he figures out a plot to get his man, too bad some other soldiers found out about it. Great little flick with some great plot twists and enough testosterone for a dozen war flicks. Great ending too. In English with Greek subtitles. [B]
